Dear Readers, The Mother by Brandi Carlile (2019)

This song has had a profound effect on me over the past five months as I settle into motherhood. I remember first listening to it at the hospital, the day after Evangeline was born. A friend told me about the song. I was lying in bed, sore from my c-section, exhausted and emotionally vulnerable. I watched her sleep peacefully in her bassinet as the song played on repeat. Even though we've never met, I somehow feel a deep connection to Brandi Carlile and would say thank you for giving me comfort that night.
