Dear Readers, I often wonder why so many people willingly have children when I constantly hear adults complain about them. You hear it too... kids rob you of sleep, are germ factories with snotty noses, stress relationships and finances, make messes, steal your peace, relaxation and privacy and the list of complaints go on. As a childless person for over 20 years of my adult life, I wondered, what's the appeal?

Evangeline was recently playing on a blanket on the living room floor with her dad. At this point, she likes to roll around a lot, be on her tummy and explore her surroundings. She also likes to cozy up to our dog, Griswold and he keeps a watchful eye on his tiny pack member too. I sat across the room and watched the quiet adoration between father and daughter. Suddenly, Evangeline propped herself up as much as her little arms and legs would allow and shuffled a bit in my direction. I wouldn't quite call it a crawl, but she was on her way. Just like spring brings new hope and change, so did Evangeline. The symbolism wasn't lost on me. Her eyes smiled and my entire body filled with an overwhelming warm sensation. It's like she said I got this, mom. Don't worry.

It's just the beginning and the first of many proud and emotional moments with our daughter.

I was suddenly reminded of how far we have come in just seven short months. We were scared, excited and emotionally fragile new parents who were about to have their words turned upside down. I thought of Nick sitting on the couch, gently holding his tiny four-week-old daughter and cradling her head in his hands. There are some feelings you can't understand about children until you have your own. I didn't. The joy, pride, love, pain. Suddenly that list of complaints starts to disappear when you experience these special moments of growth.

It's often said that time is a thief. I'll admit those early days with a newborn were exhausting, but in hindsight, brief. The days are slow, but the years are quick and should be treasured.
